MC9 Bali Hearings
By the time of the Bali Ministerial Conference in December 2013, the first six E15 Expert Groups delivered a set of proposals and ideas, with a particular focus on post-Bali imperatives. These outcomes were discussed with the trade community at the Trade and Development Symposium (TDS) that ICTSD organised in Bali, in conjunction with the WTO Ministerial Conference. At that occasion, a series of E15 public hearings were undertaken.
At the 9th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC9) in Bali, members adopted the so-called Bali Package, which includes a new trade facilitation agreement, arrangements related to food security and agriculture, as well as a selection of so-called LDC topics. The MC9 also decided to establish a work programme to conclude negotiations on the Doha Development Agenda (DDA). In 2014-15, the E15Initiative is focusing on post-Bali issues by reviewing the MC9 outcome and reflecting on the post-Bali process to advance unresolved issues under the Doha agenda. In addition the E15 will continue to work on the emerging issues that go beyond the DDA with a view to making those issues “mature” for WTO to embark upon whenever Members are ready to do so.
