Senior Fellow for global health, economics, and development, Council on Foreign Relations; Adjunct Professor of Law, Georgetown University; Consultant, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Former: Fellow, Center for Global Development; Director of Intellectual Property and Innovation, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR); Co-chair of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine (IOM) workshop on international regulatory harmonization and as a member of the IOM committee for strengthening food and drug regulation in developing countries; Fulbright scholar to South Africa. Led the negotiations for parts of the U.S.- Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreement and represented USTR in the negotiations with China on the safety of food and drug imports. Has testified before the U.S. Senate on global health and regulation.
