Expert Group and Task Force Workshops
First Expert Group Workshop on Oceans and Fisheries
The E15 Expert Group on Oceans, Fisheries and the Trade System met for the first time on 28-29 April 2014 in Geneva, Switzerland. Experts discussed a background paper prepared by Theme Leader U. Rashid Sumaila (University of British Columbia Fisheries Centre) that provided an overview of key issues and concerns regarding global trade in fish products, its impact on ecosystem and development, and the effectiveness of efforts to improve fisheries trade governance. The experts then separated into groups to discuss reforming harmful fisheries subsidies, identifying non-tariff measures and trade in fisheries products, liberalising tariff barriers to trade in fisheries products, and addressing Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing through the trading system.
Attendance at this event was by invitation only.
