Scoping Meeting on Extractive Industries
The E15 scoping group on Trade and Investment in Extractive Industries met for the first time on 17 October 2014 in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss the scope and potential topics the expert group should consider. Scoping exercise involved a debate on the expected state of the world in 2030 (demographics, scarcity, energy, growth, development, trade flows, etc.), as well as the role of government, business, NGOs, and international organizations. Experts also discussed the future interface between natural resources and the trade and investment frameworks, in order to identify the major challenges and opportunities for a conducive system.
